Hebron House

Hebron House combines comfort and practicality, thoughtfully designed to meet the needs of modern family living while maintaining timeless charm.

The design encourages day light to flood into once dimly lit spaces. For instance, daylight entering from the rooflight above the main stair is maximised by a series of borrowed lights and walk over glass, creating a bright and welcoming hall.

Project description

The front room, with its large bay window, serves as a cozy library or home office space, lined with bookshelves, is the perfect reading nook. It offers a quiet retreat with comfortable seating and ample lighting. The sightlines from the kitchen also make it a convenient space for children to play under supervision. The house's exposed brick wall across the split levels transformed into a feature, redesigned to create a continuous view from the lower ground floor up to the rooflight, making it a central, stylish spine of the house.

The kitchen, a focal point of Hebron House, has been thoughtfully transformed with a freestanding preparation table that maximises workspace without the need for a fixed island. This smart layout forms a functional kitchen triangle between the sink, cooker, and prep area, making it a highly efficient workspace. The adjacent dining area, positioned under a glass roof, is bathed in natural light, creating a bright and inviting space for family meals.

The garden plays an essential role in connecting the interior and exterior spaces, with exposed brick elements featured both inside and out, creating a sense of continuity throughout the home. This well-designed outdoor area provides more than just additional space—it serves as a calming zone for peaceful reflection, blending the indoors with the outdoors. In the bustling city of London, the garden offers a tranquil escape from urban life.

The house’s garden design features both traditional and modern elements. While retaining the original boundary walls of old London stock brick, intricate detailing complements the newer materials used throughout the house, such as metalwork and vertical slatted cedar fencing. The garden also incorporates a pond, adding a soothing natural touch. Despite being north-facing and shaded by overhanging trees, the garden is carefully designed to evoke a romantic and ethereal atmosphere. Soft tones of pinks, whites, and greens mix with roses, hydrangeas, ferns, and grasses to create a year-round woodland-inspired garden, perfect for meditative strolls and relaxation.

Material design

Hebron House started as a traditional Victorian home, and many of its original features have been preserved and enhanced with contemporary materials and design choices. The combination of exposed brick, clean lines, and thoughtful use of natural light makes this home a stunning example of modern elegance with deep historical roots.
