Situated on a residential road adjacent to Regents Canal, the 3-bedroomed home has been remodelled and renovated extensively to maximise space and functionality for the owners.
Inside, unnecessary detailing has been stripped back to transform smaller spaces into generous-sized rooms. At the rear of the property, a conservatory building has been removed and a side infill with a glazed roof added. This new space neatly accommodates a modern light-filled galley kitchen with a large opening into the new, spacious dining area.
With the owners being avid collectors of contemporary art, we wanted to ensure this resonated in the design of the building itself. We added a large circular window on the first floor which punctuates the rear elevation—a visual reference emulating the classic sculptural lines and pure abstract forms of renowned British artists such as Babara Hepworth and Ben Nicholson. The window is a central feature of the main bathroom, providing expansive views of the lushly planted garden from a reclining level in the elegant free-standing claw-foot bath.
The clean lines of the basement level continue throughout the property. All faux stuccoed period features have been stripped out, creating a minimalist backdrop for the display of mid-century furniture classics and the owner’s collection of contemporary art. On the upper ground level, a full-height glazed pivot door and glass balustrade mark a visual connection to the new extension, opening up views to the garden from the lounge.
